Baseball has been America’s favorite pastime for nearly 150 years, and though the specifics of the game have evolved, the overarching physics allowing the ever-popular sport to achieve the exciting feel it boasts, has not. How well a baseball is hit depends on four factors: angle of contact, location of contact, bat speed, and pitch speed. By looking into the forces of physics that dictate this well-known sport, I hope to gain a better understanding of how and why hitting a baseball works and how one can elevate their performance with a better understanding of physics.
