Poverty across America Poverty, as in where the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. Many communities are filled with poverty, and some don’t even understand what poverty is. “Poverty is the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support” (dictionary 2016). Society has seen that poverty has become a social problem as a macro issue, since it involves many people and society as a whole. There are many factors that affect poverty, such as cultures, ethnicity, race, gender etc. Society needs to look it a big social problem since it affects our daily lives, and there are ways to help and fight the issue. Countries are at war, or have been struck by natural disasters and have no way out. Leading globally as number one highest poverty rate is Haiti leading to an astonishing 77% poverty rate. Following shortly behind is Equatorial Guinea with 76.8% poverty rate. With Haiti being struck by natural disasters, people lost their homes, food, healthcare etc. These are urgent matters that sometimes are overlooked after certain periods of time. There are programs that are funded to be able to help countries such as Haiti, people are sent to help rebuild their communities. This problem is unique because despite how devastating the situation is, it brings people together to create a better …show more content…
The government even has the aid of welfare which allows citizens to get support from government until they are able to get back on their feet and find employment. Welfare is aided by the state and it has it’s benefits but it also costs the taxpayers billions of dollars. They help with food, rent, gas and more. There’s also the new American Recovery and Reinvestment act, which basically means that they have funds to help stabilize neighborhoods that need the help and to fight hunger. Also it opens up job opportunities and income support.Programs and Acts as these will help people get back on their feet, and give them a second chance. People sometimes need a helping hand, and programs and the government is there to help as much as they can. It will provide better job opportunities and give chances to low income working families to
