“It sucks” replied my British soccer coach when I asked him his opinion on the American Education System. I was shocked and appalled by his answer. I couldn’t understand his disdain for the system because after all America is great at everything, right? This conversation piqued my interest about our education system and the education systems around the world. I wanted to compare the european system to the american system. I also wanted to know what year round schooling was and why it wasn’t more popular in the United States. I already knew that most other countries don’t have a three month summer and in most cases are in school longer than us. I briefly remembered an article from one of my assignments that said that most american high school graduates were like european high school dropouts. I wanted to know if I was getting cheated out of a quality education. I knew that there was a gap in education, but I didn’t know by how much. I also wanted to know what year round schooling is and if that was the better option for America. I couldn’t stand not knowing if my education was substandard, so I asked the question, Which education system is better, American or European? Is year-round schooling a better option for American children? I was about to find out. It took me about a week and a half to come up with an answer to both my questions.
