Ethics: Approaching Moral Decisions According to Holmes the source of human rights is the scriptures in the Bible. There are many scriptures that show these human rights, and God also displays them by the way He treats everyone in the same manner throughout the Bible. As Christians we were born with human rights and Holmes explains this by stating, "Endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights" (Holmes, 1984, p. 89). We need to live by the rights God instils in us. We can place limits on the practice of human rights when it involves the rights of other human beings. This tragic event caused her to have horrible flashbacks, which could enable her to care for the child in a meaningful way. By legalizing abortion, this would preserve the right to freedom of choice. If there was no choice and abortion was mandated by a law this would limit a person’s freedom and their right to choose. If she was to carry the fetus to term, it could cause further emotional stress and harm to her. Another example of this might be, if a woman was on prescribed drugs, which was known to cause severe birth defects, it would make it okay for her to abort the fetus. Another example that I can think of would be not telling a family member that they have a timeline in which they might die. I feel that by telling them they are going to die in a certain time frame, would prevent them from living the remainder of their time to the fullest. I would not lie to them about what is wrong with them, but try to keep them positive and filled with hope.
I do not agree with “exaggeration,” as it is making your product seem better than what it actually is. There are many companies that use false advertising to make their products appear to be or do something that they are not. One thing I can recall is the old cigarette commercials that caused people think smoking was good for them. The commercials contained young women with no wrinkles and beautiful skin.
