In the movie Concussion Dr. Omalu discovers a disease which is killing NFL football players. The disease coined by Dr. Omalu called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) was not well received by the National Football League. In the movie, the NFL calls Dr. Omalu a quack and that he is completely wrong with his theory of football-related concussions and the development of CTE. The ethical dilemma is that there is a correlation between chronic head trauma and blows, CTE, and football, but the NFL brings joy and entertainment and it brings to the public. The first step is to describe the moral problem in detail. Again, the moral problem is that there is a correlation between concussions sustained in football and CTE, but the NFL generates a large amount of cash flow and entertains the public. The next step is the determine the options given the circumstances. The different options are to continue playing football as is, to inform the players of the risks of concussions, to heavily penalize head to head contact, to hire specialized staff and not allow a player in question of concussion to reenter the game, or to shut down the NFL. The moral principle based on the option to educate and inform players of the dangers of concussions is respect for life.
