The ethical standards of the way we treat everyone and everything are different. If you are a white male, you are going to be treated with great respect. A white female is still treated well, but not as well as a white male because they are believed to be superior. All people are treated with different levels of respect simply based on the views that someone has about a person. We treat our animals with the least amount of respect as we can and push our treatment of animals to the limit. The animals living in our world with us have done nothing to us and yet we go out of our way to find ways to treat them with the least bit of respect as possible. Why? From the beginning animals, namely dogs, have been considered to be man’s best friend. If this is the case why are animals being treated without the same respect that we would give our human best friend? The only difference is that dogs cannot talk back and have a real conversation with you like your human best friend could. Dogs are loyal and they can not hurt you like a person can so why would you want to treat your animal poorly when all they ever do is love you unconditionally. Animals do their best to please us and occasionally they fail but we as humans do not always succeed in things either so what is so different about animals not being able to constantly please us. We should be treating all living things, from humans to animals to plants, the same way that we should treat anything with respect. Animals deserve our respect, they do so much for us and they should be praised for the good things they do. As a reward, they should not be tested on and they should be given the same treatment as other human beings. Factor X is the quality that humans contain which allow them to be treated with a certain level of respect.
