Human Cloning Controversy

There is a lot of controversy regarding the Catholic Church and Human Cloning. With more research and scientific advances, it may be possible in the near future to clone human beings. Obviously, the ethical problems that arise must be put into consideration. According to the National Human Genome Research Institute, “cloning describes several processes that can be used to produce genetically identical copies of a biological entity.” Scientifically, human cloning is similar and the only difference is that the biological entity is human beings. On the other hand, morally, human cloning is very different and has different moral implications. Human cloning is against the Church because the human clone was not conceived in a natural way, through …show more content…
According to Dr. Richard Seed, human cloning may be able to one day reverse the aging process. Proponents of human cloning may also argue that therapeutic cloning may be able to cure many diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson 's, diabetes, and infertility. No definitive proof has shown this but with advances in technology, it may be quite possible in the future. Currently, adult stem cells or also known as somatic cells can be used to cure diseases and are completely moral, but taking the life of an embryo is not moral. The most important to consider with regards to the morality of certain treatments using therapeutic cloning is that the ends do not justify the means. Even if the sacrifice of one human life is enough to save millions, the killing of one person does not justify saving all those people. When dealing with issues such as human life, the moral object should be considered. If the object is to save lives and a life is lost as the outcome, then the circumstance is probably moral, but if the object is to harvest organs and blood to save lives, then the situation is most probably …show more content…
God created man in his image and likeness and he also created them male and female. It would become possible for anyone with a somatic cell and an egg to create a clone. Babies are meant to be made through the conjugal love of their parents, not in an artificial way. Women are exploited in the process of human cloning. Instead of a child being conceived through the conjugal love of a couple, the woman is used for her eggs and her uterus to hold the baby made from the cells of someone else. With advances in modern science women who are reduced to their purely biological functions may be altogether replaced by artificial wombs. This is totally immoral because it reduces the female body to just a place to create a baby. I remember from the Life is Very Good concert in Arlington, Virginia on the March for Life this year that the speaker said that women are tabernacles. When we reduce people to machines capable of making human clones we take away the sanctity of the womb. Human cloning contradicts the natural sanctity of women and life and turns babies, who are supposed to be made from love into a

In the article “Ethical Issues of Cloning” by Rita Putatunda explains about the problems of cloning. Copying the genes and making new reproductions of the human is equivalent to “playing God”. The successful cloning of Dolly (Sheep) in 1997 brings many tension upon society and furthers the possibility of human cloning. However, there is a high failure rate of cloning and it may alter the genes of the cloned animal/human. Putatunda questions that the cloning outcome might act as a unique individual or have to live like a genetic prisoner.…

“More than 123,000 people are waiting for organ transplants. Some won’t receive a transplant in time, some suffer through years of pain and medical care before finally receiving the transplant they need, and others are rejected the opportunity of a transplant because they don’t meet the criteria. The average waiting time for a heart transplant is 4 years, a kidney transplant 5 years, and a liver transplant 11 years,” (Life Donor Program). Although theologians, politicians, preachers, and the medical community wrestle with the ethical ramifications of therapeutic cloning, the medical benefits outweigh the ethical concerns. Due to the research and technology today, scientists have learned that they are able to take stem cells from a patient and grow organs and tissue that are explicit to their own DNA so there’s no risk of rejection.…

Currently the creation of cloning remains a debatable and moral disruption issued as unethical to the human race. Cloning takes away the uniqueness of species in the way that two or more people now share the same of everything especially genes which are supposed to be different from person to person. In “Wisdom of Repugnance” in his book “Ethics of Human Cloning” Leon Kass blames the willingness of people to entertain and use alternative forms of human reproduction on the media and being “softened up” Kass contends that it is procedure like test tube babies, surrogacy and invitro-fertilization that has opened the door to the possibility of cloning. He believes that these changes threaten to change the connections within the family dynamic because cloning allows the people to reproduce outside of the typical male-female relationship. The ability to clone will change the meaning of what a family is. According to Kass that would “undermine the justification and support that biological parenthood gives to a monogamous marriage” In this paper…

To me, this sounds like the best scenario a pro-cloning can present to win his case, but is it?? From what we know, Religion from day one, stood very clearly against cloning other humans, it seen the whole process as unnatural selection,, nothing like it has been witnessed in nature, it seen it as a great offense against GOD, the human dignity and equality. Are they right? Or is science is just advancing faster than we are able to keep up?…

A lot of scientists in different fields and people all around the world think that cloning is very unethical and should never be used. They believe that cloning would separate the clone from everyone else making them feel unworthy or left out. For others such as, Karen Weintraub a scientific journalist, she believes that is “--silly and sad for people to spend thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars thinking they will get back a beloved pet through cloning.” Weintraub believes that death is a part of life and scientists should not try and avoid it. “Death is a terrible part of life, but cloning won’t allow us to avoid it.…

Deciding which topic to use for my annotated bibliography wasn’t so much a “walk in the park.” At first, I wanted to choose something I could relate too or have a connection with. The more I started brainstorming, the more I realized that my topic shouldn’t be decided on something I could relate to with an experience I have had my self, but more of something that I find interest on. That’s when I decided that I wanted to choose Human Cloning as my topic. I began thinking more thoroughly to figure out what exactly I wanted to write about using this topic.…

Cloning is a sin in front of god because in the bible it says “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them “Genesis 1:27. God created people in his own image, and for babies to be created in mother’s womb, in the natural way not in a test tube. Anyone who follows God and believes in the bible should not say cloning is right especially just for organ donation, because nobody should take away the life of another person because only God can take away lives. Men did not create our life but God did so a man should not have any right to take anybody’s life because only the creator can take what he gave ys therefore killing clones for donation purpose is murdering and it should be a crime. If people keep on cloning to save their loved ones or in the memory of them, then the generation is not going anywhere because we are going to keep on cloning the people that were here.…

The child might live in the shadow of the duplication, which will impact a child negatively. Also the author mentions that “reproductive cloning could allow parents of a child who lost his/her life to seek a way to redress their loss” (CGS : Reproductive Cloning Arguments Pro and Con). Reproductive cloning has positive sides as well.…

In this era, there is still a bit of confusion on the word ¨cloning¨. To consider the exact cloning of another human being forces me to question the exact concept of right or wrong that makes us all humans. On the other, hand Therapeutic cloning can help create vital organs. Because of cloning, Science could advance to a point where millions of people will have access to lifesaving therapies developed using their own DNA.This would mean therapeutic cloning can be helpful for people, who are suffering from kidney failure or other disorder who are forced to wait years for a replacement organ. In my opinion I agree therapeutic cloning should be legalized in many states because for instance, It could treat genetic diseases, it would reduce the possibilities of an organ being rejected during transplantation. And also another big reason is it could be easily ethically accepted.…

Although it poses a world of "what-if" possibilities for those that have trouble conceiving or those that seek treatment for genetic diseases that are deemed incurable, the practice of somatic cell nucleus transfer is not ethical. The reasons why consist of many it is morally unethical rely on numerous factors. First and most important fact in my eyes is the creation of life to just destroy that life for research. This therapeutic cloning is legal in some states, but requires the destruction of the embryo after the stem cell harvest. I do not believe anyone should have the power other than God Himself to take a life that does not belong to them.…

Cloning can offer a replacement of a loved one who passed away whether its a human or animal. Even though they aren’t an exact replica of this person or animal, people are comforted by their presence (76). However, this can be unhealthy since the people paying for this option are expecting the same person which can lead to disappointment. Not only this, paying to clone someone or something is very costly and can lead to a gap between the wealthy and the poor, leaving the poor at a disadvantage. The same is with parents choosing specific traits desired when expecting a child, this process can be identified as designer babies (67).…
