These are, systemic, corporate, and individual. What makes this an individual ethical issue is having to decide what is right for you, and what is the right thing to do. In a situation that has to do with money, and safety, it is important to rely on your moral beliefs. This also involves a systemic ethical issue because this will involve a lot of people in the area, as well as the reputation of the company and the governor who is buddy buddy with the CEO. Finally, this illustrates a corporate issue due to the fact that this situation can be broken down to acknowledge that a bribery is happening to cover up for a poor product. Well, yeah, any of those situations could easily stop someone from doing the right thing. When money comes into play, especially when ones salary is being doubled, most would tend to stay quiet because it could definitely help out in such a major way for their life. As well as the power above you, like the CEO and Governor, sometimes it could be tough when you are being pressured and fear the repercussions for lashing out against such authority. Maybe an employees life was threatened and therefore decided not to say anything, or maybe ones spouse threatened to divorce if they spoke up because they were getting ‘blessed’ with more money. The most important factors would be what one is losing by speaking out. If one did decide to speak out and admit the truth on what is going on, the job would be lost, friends would be lost, the companies reputation would be lost. The good thing is though, one would still keep their integrity and credibility for doing what is right.
