The Essentials: A Short Story

“Eli wake up this instant” my mother screeched from across the hall in her room. I said “what” and yawned in fatigue. She screeched across the hall again “get up and get ready to go”, For a while, I wondered what in the world she was talking about, then it struck me: we have to go to six flags. I ran to my mother's room and begged not to go. But she looked at me and said a firm “NO!” I walked to my room and took out a bag of cool ranch Dorito chips and opened it. I was exhausted from playing the game 2k all night. I just wanted to go back to sleep, but I pushed myself up and went downstairs to get some cereal. While I was eating my cereal, little did I know, that day was going to be the most confusing day of my entire life.

When I finished my cereal I went back upstairs to figure out what I was going to wear. First, I checked my phone to look at the weather. Once I finished putting on my clothes, I went to my mom to ask her what I was supposed to bring with me, she answered “ the essentials”. We waited for hours for my mother to get out of the house, but when she finally did we left. I turned on my Hotspot and connected my Xbox to it so I could play. While I was playing 2k I realized that we weren't driving the way to Six Flags. I had been so immersed with my Xbox, that I failed to realize we were still in Willingboro. I realized we were just going to pick up my aunt. When she got in in the car, we started going on the right path to Six Flags, or so it seemed. When we were on our way to Six Flags it had to have been 30 minutes or so, I realized that we had taken the Trenton exit. I pointed out to my mom that we might have taken the wrong exit. She then me a long and vicious stare and went back to watching her Korean soap opera on her phone. Realizing I wasn't going to get an answer, I went back to playing
