Personal Narrative: My Passion For Family

Superior Essays
By definition, a passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion. We live every day following a passion on guiding us to the necessary tools of daily motivation. Beginning off, I am passionate about learning and getting the proper education I need to further myself in life. Reason being, my mom, and dad had never been a “helicopter parent” when it came to grades; they would just look over my work, check in with me now and then to make sure I was doing what I am supposed to be doing. Therefore, I needed to push myself to be aware of what I had to do to prove to them that I am responsible. To explain, when I was in the 4th grade I was a star student when it came to spelling, I was the best speller in the entire class. Neither of my parents …show more content…
Family is a big part of my life as anyone would say, but personally, I do not know where I would be without them. Reason one, my entire family only gets together for Christmas and when someone passes away, which in my opinion is not enough. We used to all have dinner for Thanksgiving at my house but once we moved so many times it stopped. Spending time with your family is the most important thing anyone should do because you never know what could happen to them, and then you start to break apart. Reason 2 why I have a passion for family, they never give up on you nor judge you. They might question your authority and ask the “why’s and why not 's” but regardless they would be there to step up for you in any fight or altercation. Every year, my aunt Lynn on my mom’s side of the family always pulls me aside and asks me what my plans after graduation are even if I have the same answer each time. It can be annoying at times because I do not know what more to tell her, but I know she means best for me. Finishing off, reason three is my aunt Colleen from my dad’s side of the family always helps me with planning college visits, what schools fit my academic standards, etc. I believe in everything she tells me because she graduated with a Masters Degree from Carnegie Mellon and were highly successful in her life. She taught me everything I needed to know throughout high school, and I appreciate her

My family of origin was comprised of my parents, myself, and my younger brother. David was born three years after me, and we filled the functional roles of “oldest child” and “youngest child” perfectly. As described by McGoldrick, Gerson, & Petry (2008), “oldest children are likely to be the over responsible and conscientious ones in the family” (p.126). I was always expected to perform academically and conduct myself with high moral standards. I did as was expected, and I do not remember ever questioning the situation.…

As a child, having rules to follow wasn’t unheard of with my family. There was always a way to behavior with friends/family, at school, at home and out in the street. Often I found myself getting into trouble because I didn 't listen and also the fact that I always found some kind of way to slipping out of having to doing something that I knew I was supposed to do.
