The Inuit people of Alaska take part in what is known as the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics. A vast amount of people from all over the world participate in these games which challenges their strength, endurance, balance and agility (2). These games however were not just created for fun, bringing families together and carrying on the culture but it was created by their ancestors who used these activities to help them survive in the harsh Alaskan terrain. By passing on these activities down to their offspring, they would be able to continue the culture as well as be able to survive in the real world as many participants call it. Some may not consider these games to be an actual sport by American standards but even the most traditional of American sports, football, is not that different from these games, so why should it not be considered a sport?

Even now, if one were to look at what people classify as sports there would be those characteristics that tie them together even though there may be completely different rules. For example, in soccer you cannot use your hands except if you are the goalie, in basketball you cannot use your feet and in baseball you use a bat.
