Harry Houdini is not his real name, his real name is Erich Weiss, he got the name Harry Houdini by another magician Robert Houdin and he was born in Budapest, Hungary. He came to America with his family when he was only four years old. Harry Houdini, arguably the greatest escape artist of all time, had a great impact in the entertainment industry in the 1920s. He began the trick by showing the audience that there was nothing funny about the tank. One of Houdini's most famous tricks was called “The suspended Straitjacket Escape”. He would be strapped in a straightjacket upside down off of a building. He perform this trick publicly in front of thousands of people. He first performed the trick on September 8, 1915 on the streets of Kansas City. Another one of Houdinis most famous tricks was called “Escape from Murderers Row”. In this trick he escaped from a max prison cell in just eighteen minutes. In that time he also switched prisoners into different cells. He first performed the trick in Washington DC on January 6, 1906. He also performed many variations of the trick in different cities in different prisons.
Harry Houdini, along with many other entertainers, shaped the 1920s entertainment industry as we know it today. Harry Houdini showed everyone that there is hope for all immigrants in the 1920s. Houdini's magic was a symbol of freedom. Being able to come to America, start a life as a magician and bringing in income for his family is Houdini being a great role model to everyone not just immigrants
