In the epilogue, R has a dream where everything he thought is put on to everyone and it force him to put into perspective everything he thought hr knew. The dream lets him come to term with what he did as well as who he is. R comes around to the fact that he was wrong. The what he did was, in fact, a crime and that not only has he committed a crime according to society but has also broken his own moral code. In coming to this, state of thinking, he finds redemption in Sonya. Sonya was the one who was trying to get him to see the implications of what his way of thinking truly means, she was the one trying to get him to find redemption and to get him to understand the need for spiritual healing.
