The great King Gilgamesh was a great ruler over the city of Uruck. And there were many flaws in his greatness. He was so easily convinced of greatness he would believe anything positive that was said even if it was just out of praise. He was highly arrogant even the gods got irritated with it. Last of all he was brave and determined to always get his way. Through all of this he faces trials and hurt but also makes a change at heart nearing the end of his quest. This somewhat great King Gilgamesh was very much convinced of his greatness. In “The Battle Of Humbaba” the very beginning of this excerpt says, “When the people of Uruck complain about Gilgamesh’s arrogance, the goddess Aruru creates Enkidu to content with the king and absorb his energy.” Which goes back to me saying that even the gods were getting irritated by it. With all the praise and worshiping he was receiving he was very much a little conceited and in love with himself until he finds out that he to will eventually die just like everyone else does. In reward of Gilgamesh’s greatness and how he was one third human, two thirds god he was the greatest king to ever rule over his city and the greatest king to ever live. In “The Return” it states at the very end, “This too was the work of Gilgamesh, the king, who knew the countries of the world. He was wise, he saw mysteries and knew secret things, he brought us a tale of the days before the flood. He went a long journey, was weary, worn out with labor, and in returning engraved on a stone the whole story.” He got what he wanted not in an authentic way but in another more powerful way.
