What makes a person a hero? Well, there are many characteristics that make up a hero, such as bravery/ courage, strong leadership, determination, ambition, integrity ...etc. The list can go on forever because there are so many characteristics that make up a hero. Heroism entails several things. Everyone has the qualities to be a hero whether they know it or not, such as doctors, firefighters, police officers, and even family members. Some people are even born to be heroes like Gilgamesh in the story "The Epic of Gilgamesh". A hero takes part in a journey or quest, faces opponents that try to defeat him, gathers allies, and returns home completely transformed by his journey. In the story "The Epic of Gilgamesh", that is exactly what Gilgamesh does. His story involves a series of adventures and superhuman victories, as well as interactions with gods and goddesses. Gilgamesh goes on a journey with Enkidu to the forest to kill Humbaba, then afterwards, the gods punish Enkidu by giving him a painful death for killing the Bull of Heaven and Humbaba. Saddened by Enkivdu 's death, Gilgamesh goes on a quest to find the secrets of immortally. When he returns he is a completely different person that is able to enjoy his life. There are a few things that show us how Gilgamesh is a hero. These things also display the 'hero ' qualities that he possesses. This is through his divine birth, his adventures with a divine interference, his journey for immortality, and his return…
