In the story, Beowulf , there is a Kingdom in Heort ruled by Hrothgar. The kingdom was always being watched and attacked by a monster, a powerful demon, a prowler of the dark seeking for a hard grievance known as Grendel. Not only is there one monster but the monster 's mother and a flame throwing dragon. These three monsters cause many problems in the kingdom throughout the poem. King Hrothgar of heort, needs to find a hero to defend his kingdom from destruction, and soon finds a man named Beowulf. His job is to defeat these monsters and in return receive some metals and valuables from defeating these monsters, using many methods, techniques, and weapons. Beowulf 's first battle is against Grendel. Grendel 's loneliness and gloom has led him to a huge rage in the kingdom. Beowulf would soon have to end Grendel 's terror. In the poem Beowulf, the author rights, “ He would rip life from limb and devour them, feed on their flesh; but his fate that night was due to change, his days of ravening had come to an end “(line 732). Beowulf believes in fate, meaning that when something is meant to happen then it will happen for a reason. Beowulf however believes that fate will determine his defeat against Grendel. He however does not go alone on this battle, he brings very few warriors along with him.
