In the very first page of the book R.K. Narayan begins with the first person perspective of Krishna being "disaffected and says "I was on the whole pleased with my day, many conflicts to worry above …show more content…
The feeling of having the inappropriate job with a good pay is something a lot of adults/people have in their lives with no choice, this goes same with Krishna except he's taken a leap over, he has many conundrums with his job, "'mug up' on Shakespeare" Krishna's life is an ongoing dilemma, and so is his work, in the previous quote mentioned, it's stated that Krishna's everyday life job begins with a short scanning through Shakespeare so he could teach it, any other teacher who likes there subject would do more than just "mug up" on Krishna's case, he doesn't care about his job to the point he would say this " if they paid me 100 Rupees for stringing beads… I would do it with equal fervor", Fervor is a hard and heavy hitting word when it comes to this situation, when the author uses fervor to describe Krishna's passion about his job is equivalent to stringing beads, he's using sarcasm and when he is Narayan is giving Krishna a sarcastic yet dull personality which very much shows how bootless him being a teacher is to him, one other evidence of Krishna's love-hate war between his job is as goes "I did do it out of love for them, or Shakespeare, but out of love for myself", This quote in it by itself is able to sum up Krishna's life job, he doesn't care about anyone but himself and his money, he is so into his job and so very much selfish, he wouldn't care about his students education, or some sort of teacher passion towards there subject but he shows a dull passion to his …show more content…
Narayan portray his attitude towards the selective individuals that are related to Krishna? One of the greatest mysteries in the first couple pages of the "English teacher" is whether Krishna has a family, and here I shall explain his attitude toward his family starting from his wife and children, one of the biggest catalysts that changed Krishna's life was when he received a message from both his wife and father, which to him was a very fun thing to open, what both the letters had in common is that both the letter from Krishna's father and wife talk about getting a new house and moving in, which to Krishna is a large leap towards his life living in the hostel he currently is in, "I hear that Susila, and the baby, are keeping well. He suggests that you should take her and the baby and set up a family and live in a hostel any longer.", this may be a big quote but it means a lot to both the understanding of Krishna's father and what may change his life toward the better or worse, with this quote itself we understand that Krishna has left his wife, child and family to live in a hostel with unsuitable to live in conditions just for the money, Narayan greatly pushes Krishna's feelings into a direction Krishna has never felt before, he's going to live in a new house and even more he's going to see his wife and child again from a very long time, which for anyone is a huge outbreak even for an emotionless worthless person like Krishna, Krishna
