One of the examples of conflict is the safety of the army of kids marching towards Buckingham Palace. The group consists of 53 kids but the main characters the story follows are, Arran, Achilleus, Freak, Maxie, Blue, Callum, Jester, and Ollie. When the army finally arrives at Buckingham Palace, David the leader of the group at the Palace greets them. David claims to have vast amounts of food and can offer shelter, however, David lies to them about the food, as it seems that they are barely getting by on what they have. David wants to restore London to it’s former glory by restoring the royal family and uniting all the kids of London. This turns out to be a lie when David tricks the army into killing a camp full of squatters by saying they are infected so that he can take the land and expand his growing empire. Also, he tricks the army to bring him a group of kids that live in the Natural History Museum to exchange their allegiance for one of their group’s leaders that he has captured for betraying him at the beginning of the disaster. This is an example of both internal and external conflict.
So lastly, there are many points of conflict in The Enemy. Safety, sickness, and the kids fighting among themselves are three of the biggest conflicts the characters in this book go through. Finally, these are all conflicts since they are all obstacles on their way to restore London.
The Enemy by Charlie Higson was a great book in my opinion. With its successor Dead, The Enemy delivered a great plot and a great way to start the series. The Enemy delivered great detail and a vivid description of a post apocalyptic London. This book told
