The essay written on Agatha Christie called “The Enduring Appeal of Agatha Christie” demonstrates aspects of an effective essay. I was able to analyze the way the text is structured by dividing the essay into the introduction, body and conclusion.
Introductory Paragraph:
To begin with, the introductory paragraph of the essay began with an “attention grabber”. This is a phrase that is broad, however, allows for the main idea of the piece to stem from it. In this essay, a rhetorical device, used to interact with the reader personally, is simultaneously followed by a fact. The fact discusses known authors (ex. The first Paragraph states more than one example of Christie’s characters and states what makes them different as well. More information could be provided about the characters as well as evidence and references to the specific book that contained these characters. This would allow validity of the work and more concrete evidence. The paragraph concludes with a conspiracy about a character being her alter ego. This phrase seems out of context and maybe for a different paragraph.
Paragraph two & three does the opposite of paragraph one and contains evidence and detailed information. It also enhances our knowledge and explains exactly why this makes Agatha Christie the “Queen of Crime Fiction.” or appreciate after her death. It shows links between her life and the books as well. These attributes allow a reader to understand the evidence to their greatest ability without external research.
