Question #2 from D2L: The endosymbiont theory attempts to explain the evolutionary origin of eukaryotes. Describe this theory in a paragraph. Be sure to use these terms: semiautonomous organelles, symbiotic relationship, protoeukaryote, purple bacteria, cyanobacteria, mitochondria, and chloroplasts.
Through research it was discovered that mitochondria and chloroplasts are able to reproduce independently as well as contain their own DNA, RNA, mRNA, tRNA,and ribosomes which is referred to as semiautonomous organelles. It is by means of this research that the endosymbiont theory …show more content…
During photosynthesis photosystem I and photosystem II are utilized. They are located in chloroplasts in the leaves of a plant. The main job of photosystem I and photosystem II is to aid in the production of ATP. This begins in photosystem II where the reaction center is p680, this means it absorbs light at 680nm, which is red light. (pg.301) Photons comedown from light and are absorbed by light harvesting complexes. The photon is then bounced from complex to complex until it comes to p680.(pg. 304) P680 requires an electron, which it gets from a water molecule. The electron is taken and then moves into p680, which excites the electron and it moves up in energy states to an electron acceptor. Then it moves down the electron transport chain to photosystem I, during this process there is some ATP generated. (pg. 305) In photosystem I, the photon comes down from light and comes into contact with the light harvesting complexes and is absorbed. The photon is then bounced from complex to complex until it reaches p700. P700 absorbs light at 700nm. Then the energy produced by photosystem II is excited by the light taken into photosystem I through p700. The electron then moves up energy states to the reaction center and then on to the 2nd electron transport chain to the complex Ferredoxin (Fd). NADP+ then takes in the one electron from Fd, and an electron from photosystem
