The End Justifies The Means In Machiavelli's The Prince

“The end justifies the means” is not exactly in the text of The Prince, but it is a perception of what is said in the text. In the end, means are judged by the outcome of the actions that have occurred. Actions are sometimes not what they seem in the beginning or even the middle as they are in the end when everything is seen clearly. This is the case with the use of two atomic bombs on two Japanese cities. This was not the plan the United States government had in mind, as they were designing the atomic bombs to dominate the Axis powers in an arms race not to use it on civilians. The arms race occurred during World War II with the objective to have the greatest arsenal compared to other countries. Germany was ahead of the United States with the research of the Atomic Bomb, but quickly fell behind due to the United States gaining many Jewish scientists who were fleeing nazi Germany. When a politician needs support they will aim at a large group of voters to appeal to, and use their votes to do more than they originally let the voters know, as this is using the support for their own agenda. This leads to the end justifies the means as the politician used one topic to get support for another topic that is not exactly in the eyes of the voters. “We consider whether people think that the ends justify the means, and under what conditions people’s feelings about the policy outcome color their evaluations of the process that produced it.”(Doherty & Wolak, Page 302) the means are judged by how people feel, when they are able to consider the way it was carried out and the result. The end is the time when the means can be seen as justified or unjustified based upon the positive and negative impacts that were the product of the actions
