The End Ft. Lights Poem Analysis

The End ft. Lights by Silverstein is about desirable love for a couple, but in the end it never came to be. In the first stanza, it implicates the first moment the two soulmates met each other, and how they felt for one another. Following along to the second stanza, the man explains how he worshiped the woman and admire all her perfection. Yet listening to the third stanza, he confronts to her that she could never love him; however, wants to keep a place in her heart. Looking at the fourth stanza, the woman faces the man about breaking her heart with promises that changes to utter lies. Skipping the fifth stanza, the sixth involves the man informing the woman he didn’t want to save her, but he couldn’t just leave her alone. This portrays that

“Song of Powers” is a poem I selected because I liked the way the author set it up. It takes an ordinary game, rock-paper-scissors, and makes it into a metaphor. To me, this poem is about putting aside your own personal desires and strengths to live in harmony with the others around you. Each, rock, paper, and scissor, has their own strength, but in the end, they all destroy each other and end the poem on their own, which is the caution the author has for the reader. The poems tone is somewhat boastful in the beginning, where each shape in the game touts their own strengths.…

Author used words such as “on and on”(line 11) to demonstrate the deepness and the intensiveness of the young man’s desire toward the woman. An image of the young man alone in the bed, “tossed from one side to another”(line 2) showed how much he suffered from loving the woman he was unable to get. This stanza conveyed sorrows and pains the man went through when the maiden he thought of day and night rejected him, and this created in a sad tone in contrast to the happy and exciting tone before. Nonetheless, starting from the fourth stanza, the tone seemed to move back toward the happy side of the scale. In line 16, “With harps we bring her company”, the young man shortened the distance between him and the maiden through playing harps.…

Michael, I enjoyed reading your post this week. In the poem, Ode to Browsing the Web”, I feel that the author has a love hate relationship with the internet. When the author mentions “all of this happening in a time no older than your last heartbeat”, I believe that he is letting me know that a feeling of a few minutes in the virtual world is in reality, actually closer to several hours of time (Wicker, 2013). In the poem, “Traveling Through the Dark”, I believe that he understood the norm that takes place in these types of situations, but the unborn fawn caused him to reevaluate the entire norm to determine if there is a better solution (Stafford, 1998). Last week, I had a very difficult time trying to understand the poem, “Wild Geese”…

“Only with words and people and love you move at ease; in traffic of wit expertly maneuver …”. After describing her unpredictability when crossing the street, this metaphor speaks volume and shows how much her ability to effortlessly hold a conversation with others is treasured and adored. The final stanza in its entirety is a proclamation of the depth of his love. The author expresses his need for his lovers company and even gives her permission to continue on smashing glasses. In the final lines he expresses the sadness that would take over if she were to die, the phrase “… hands drop white and empty…” metaphorically representing death.…

The evident social issues in the texts above have been about the effects of colonisation and exploitation of the land by 'white Australians '. Issues raised include; the mining of land seen by aboriginals as destruction of sacred land, the modernisation of the Australian landscape away from the natural beauty described by the composer and the tragic fading away of the aboriginal culture after attempts to display a sense of conciliation. In the poem, 'Time Is Running Out ', the composer - Oodgeroo of the tribe NOONCCAL - highlights the taking of land to mine minerals in a destructive manner just for a greedy cause; usually money. This can be seen when the composer writes, ' In his greedy lust for power, He destroys old natures will.…

By analysing the language used in ‘The Last Judgement’ I will endeavour to explore the pageant’s intended effect on the audience, looking specifically at the significance of place and the pageant’s structure. The York Corpus Christi play is structured so that within one day the audience are told the story of Christianity from the creation of the world to judgement day, which, if viewed from an Aristotelian perspective, could be seen as having a tragic plot structure (a fall from good to bad). This tragic plot is seen in the fall from the joyful beginning of the world in ‘The Creation’ to the warning about inevitable judgement in the final play ‘The Last Judgement’. As Greg Walker summarises, the York Corpus Christi plays aim to ‘create […] contemplation within everyday life’, which applies to the tragic structure leading up to and ending with the ‘The Last Judgement’, as the reminder that everyone will be judged according to their sins might aim to encourage the audience to contemplate their own lives and repent for any sinful things they might have done.…
