“If I had them, there was no way I could lose.” (Cass 323). This is the last sentence in the book, The Elite, and I believe that it wraps up the plot of the book perfectly. In the book The Elite, the competition gets down to the final six girls called The Elite. America now has to work harder than ever to get the Prince’s attention. America endures a drastic turn of events, and needs to get her head back in the competition. While reading this book, I found myself visualizing, evaluating, and clarifying events that occurred throughout the story.

While reading The Elite, there were many events in which I could clearly see an image in my head. For instance, while reading “Huge stains in the carpet announced where someone, perhaps a helpless maid

I feel this way due to him acting like an adversary towards America. There is clear evidence supporting this in the quote “You’re going to need to learn to hold your tongue. If not, you and I will be enemies. Trust me when I say that you do not want to be my enemy.” (Cass 321). This clearly shows that the King is a cruel man and that he doesn’t want anything to do with America. The King also has a conversation with America about how lovely the Queen, and then totally switches gears and tells America that she is nothing but ordinary. He does this by telling her how plain she is compared to the rest of the girls and how her caste is pathetic and useless for the throne. “He stormed over to me and ripped the diary from my hands.”(Cass 273). This quote also shows how cruel the King is, but it also shows that he isn’t afraid to be violent. The King also slashes Maxon in the back whenever Maxon upsets or insults his father in any way. The fact that the King can abuse his son and charge at a helpless girl without feeling bad about his actions clearly show that he is a cruel and vile …show more content…
I think this due to America’s maids always obeying her wishes and helping her in anyway they can. “The last thing I was expecting when I walked in my doorway was the smattering of applause from my maids.”(Cass 278) is a quote that supports that her maids really like her. This quote shows that even though America did something extremely stupid, they still support her 100 percent. America’s maids also cried and cried when they thought about the possible demise of America. America was walking back to her room and heard Lucy balling down the hallway, and when she stood outside her room, she saw Anne and Mary sweeping up broken glass with red, puffy eyes. Her maids ran and gave America a hug as soon as they saw she was safe. Their worry over whether or not she was safe shows clear loyalty and care for America. “If she’s going to win, we need a plan.”(Cass 323) is a what Anne said as soon as America told then that she was going to fight for Maxon. This shows that the maids clearly want to help America win the competition. They way America’s maids want to help America clearly shows that they want to keep her around for

Literary Canon The literary Canon should not be abolished, but simply modified and modernized to suit the changes that have occurred in the world. The Canon was usually associated with the literary work of white Europeans, but after the 1980s changes occurred as the work of African Americans and women became more stage centered sparking a debate about the canon. The core of the canon comes from the literary works of the 19th century and that core should remain constant as the foundation, but it should be more flexible and open to the new ideas of the 20th and 21st century. The work of the minorities must be added to provide much more variety. The theory of a [open canon] by Sakara Bubikova in her article “The Formation and Transformation…

The five stories I had chosen were “Sweat,” “Reunion,” “A Rose for Emily,” “The Story of an Hour,” and “The Yellow Wallpaper. " All five of these stories had, at least, two characters and one was deceiving the other. Although, only one character, in the end, was able to deceive the other. All stories show various amounts of themes, but the most common were deceitfulness.…

The piece I have chosen to write, Taper, is about a struggling sibling relationship between two sisters, and a conversation that encapsulates what it's like when families run in circles around each other. I was inspired to write Taper after reading "Like a House on Fire", "Cross Country", and "Seventy-Two Derwent's". I was inspired by these stories as I enjoy first person narration rarely, and only when they are very internal, or in diary form, as I think they are excellent at showing the inner thoughts of character. In "Seventy-Two Derwent's" I was interested in the sibling relationship and, although the relationship in my story is unstable, I liked the idea of family looking out for each other, as well as how complex these relationships can…

American housewives were envied by other women around the world because women in America lived, such “lavish lifestyles”. American housewives got to clean and cook with time-saving appliances, didn’t have to deal with illnesses or the unknown of childbirth, and only had to worry about her husband, kids and keeping up with the home. So, should American women feel guilty for wanting more? Of course not. Despite some people’s beliefs every human whether they are a male or female should have the right to live out their dream.…

If someone were to ask me “Do you deserve an A in British Literature Honors?”, I would say yes, because I have demonstrated I understand the material and can use what I have learned. Despite being a transfer student being accepted a week before school dealing with summer assignments, making new friends, and learning the ropes of my new school, I still have managed to comprehend and use what I learn in this class. The reason we go to school and get good grades in classes is to educate ourselves and apply it in real life, and our grades are supposed to show others that we are capable and educated people. I feel that I am educated and capable in British Literature, and I deserve my grade to reflect that. I wholeheartedly believe that I deserve an A in this class.…

Dead End The Lie The thing that influences identity the most is family, and the stories “Dead End” and “The Lie” prove it. These stories prove it because someone's family situation can affect their choices, a person's family can influence their beliefs, and someone's family name can influence the way they think of themselves. One way that someone's family influences their identity is that the state that their family is in can affect their choices. If the condition of a person's family is bad, as in maybe their parents are constantly fighting, or maybe a child has had to take the role of a parent, then maybe that person will make choices to go along with that, such as trying to make everything better.…
