The Eight Neighbors

The Eight Neighbors case study involves an economic setting that is based out of the Washington DC region. In this area the economy feeds off of the federal government and is incorporated to many corporations who work with the federal government. In the past, collaboration across sectors has been a challenge in this area. An economic crisis in 2008 initiated the creation of the collaborative effort known as the Eight Neighbors. The partnership is made of eight leaders of an umbrella organizations that include both nonprofit and public sectors of this area. As success increases, the partnership extended to 8 members intending to to endure support of the nonprofit sector. Unfortunately, the partnership then lacked a solid construction capable of satisfying its duties and demonstrating its validity, reliability, and accountability. The partnership had no clear mission which led to a possibility for lack of direction and dismissal. At this point, the partnership was not sustainable at all. The administrators expressed that you cannot operate by thinking that you have all of the answers so it important to come together to find all of the answers together. This is important to the Eight Neighbors because a shared governance is most effective when trust is widely shared. It is important that the leaders recognize that the focus should be on everyone’s in charge together rather than pointing the finger. I think along with having this mindset, the Eight Neighbors Partnership should establish one solid, leader that has a good relationship with every leader as a source to provide trust within the collaboration.
