However, even though this is the population from which a sample was taken for the research, it may be assumed that ultimately the goal of the study is to define the population as all workers in Taiwan, for purposes of extrapolation of the data. Additionally, only respondents holding a full-time job were selected for the analysis in order to highlight the potential effects of work/family conflict (Lu et al., 2011).
Description of Data and Descriptive Statistics A wide variety of data was collected for this article, some of which are discrete variables, such as Sex, Marital status, Rank, and Working spouse. All of these were given a score based on a nominal scale, and were then categorized accordingly (e.g. Sex is 1 = male, 2 = female or Rank is 1 = managers, 2 = employees). Other discrete variables included education level and dependent children which were based on the use of an ordinal scale. Additionally, many were continuous variables such as WFC (controlling for FWC), FWC (controlling for WFC),

The independent variable family demands included the number of dependent children living in the home and whether the spouse was working or not (Lu et al., 2011). The independent variable of work flexibility included autonomy in deciding how work time was utilized and the freedom to use personal leave as desired; reverse scoring was used for this element so that a higher score is equal to more autonomy or freedom (Lu et al., 2011). The independent variables of WFC and FWC are the dual-direction form of work/family conflict, separated based on whether the demands come from work or family. Participants were asked if they felt the demands of work (WFC) or family (FWC) interfered with family and work, respectively (Lu et al.,

    3. "Gwenyth Paltrow believes water has feelings, just like human beings have feelings. She gets her evidence from Dr. M. Emoto who says that when you write “I love you” and “peace” on vials of water, they freeze better into “gleaming, hexagonal crystals”. Vials of water written on with “I hate you” and “fear”, turned into “gray, mishappen clumps” when frozen. Paltrow believes that Dr. Emoto is a pioneer in the field of how emotions affect matter. She recommends only drinking water that has been played upbeat, happy music."…

The demanding nature of our current workforce in combination with the many roles fulfilled within life can in some cases have a negative impact on individuals’ mental health, and family life. Incorporated knowledge about the ‘work-family interface’ is needed to address the complexities between work and family life. Donna E. Palladino Schulttheiss gives attention to four avenues of this topic: the meaning of work embedded in people’s lives, multiple life roles, work and family navigation, and supportive family systems. She explains, work can have varying emotions attached, some people feel a sense of belonging at work, others can feel estranged and rejected. It is important for psychologists to have an intersectional understanding of the meaning…

We are experiencing an interesting period in time. We actually have about 4 different generations currently in our work force. Each of these groups were raised in different households with different standards and different ethics. While each group (your veterans, baby boomers, generation x’s and millennials) have a lot of the same attributes in the workplace, you have many different characteristics that define each generation as their own. While there are lists and lists of differences, I believe that you can dumb them down to a few categories.…

In the articles “Why Gender Equality Stalled,” “Women’s Rights In Colombia,” and “Famous Firsts in Women’s History,” all of the authors discuss topics involving women’s rights. Within these articles their topics vary from traditional gender roles, violent acts of crime towards women, as well how gender equality has either changed or stayed consistent over time. Women in the United States have made a substantial amount of progress regarding obtaining women’s rights and gender equality, whether it be the right to vote or become employed and provide for their families, the roles of women have both changed significantly and maintained consistency throughout the years. Though the United States has shown progress other parts of the world still struggle in obtaining gender equality.…

You and I both have a mother and father. However, privileged individuals have both parents living under the same roof in “love”. If you are one of these privileged individuals we can make judgement on who does the most laundry, who handles the finances, who cooks, who cleans, and the list is endless. Some of us might say “mom” and others “dad” but regardless of who does what, in a “traditional” household (Olson November 17th, 2016), there’s always one parent who does the majority of the house and child-rearing work. It becomes a “second shift” for that parent when they come home from work.…

Autocorrelation is not expected to be an issue with the model, given that the it is not using time series data, and it can therefore be assumed that there is no autocorrelation present in the model. To make sure that there is no perfect collinearity present in the model, it is recommended to run a collinearity test of the model (see: Exhibit 1.1). If a variable generate a VIF (Variance Inflation Factors) value above 10.0, the model might have a collinearity problem and attempts to correct the model should be made. However, the test did not generate any VIF values above 10.0 for any of the variables, thus not suggesting any problems and also implying that the model shows no perfect collinearity i.e. not violating the assumption.…

Our discussion then turned to issues in the workplace. “More and more women are entering the workplace each and every year; this includes both married and single women?” Mrs. Nguyen responded to that thought by saying that it is great and thinks that, “Women and men who choose to enter the workforce are equally great for pursing their economic, personal and professional dreams.” (Nguyen).…

Do we perceive that two incomes is always better than one? Do we perceive that we will always have leverage over our employees and that they will forever bow down to our demands? We can see in the articles that these perceptions can degrade our lives to a point that we cannot balance work or family, much less both. I tend to lean with Capelli, Constantine and Chadwick, that “stable, mature, happy family” is the best place to begin with the end in mind (42). I believe that this recipe is the best place to grow and improve a process whether it is family, marriage, childrearing or work.…
