The link to this survey was distributed through several means; a Facebook post explaining the survey, text messages, distributing a piece of paper with the link to coworkers which was to be taken at home. After that the link was distributed to participants for the study, they were told that this survey was a survey about social media. The Facebook post told the participants “I 'm currently doing a study for a class and would appreciate it if you all can take this survey. Not only will it mean a lot because it will help me graduate from college but if I can get over 40 respondents I am willing to do the cinnamon challenge and ice bucket challenge.” The participants were given an incentive to do the survey. To achieve this goal all that had to be done was get the 40 respondents. The participants were also to give the link to draw a larger audience to test out the study. This researcher only got 38 respondents to answer the survey, what could have been differently was to find another platform to send the message. The hypothesis was not confirmed in the survey. Reasons behind why it may have not been confirmed is maybe the respondents did not answer honestly because a high number of people scored a one or two on the loneliness scale. The audience that was asked to do this survey was geared to those who use Facebook and have friendships online. Maybe the questions for the loneliness scale were answered in a way that the respondent would not seem lonely. At the end of the day the numbers prove the hypothesis wrong. The loneliness scale might be something to reconsider for another survey because the questions were obvious to which made one lonely and which did not make them
