The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Behavior Essay
For many years now I have heard many major media sources (NBC, CNN, and FOX) as well as many parents say, “Violent video games make kids aggressive and more likely to become violent”. I don’t believe that at all. I as well as many of the people I know, have all played violent video games since our early childhoods and none of us show any signs of aggression or violent behavior. This is why I have to write about this topic. I want to shed light on a subject that the media for years has painted it black.
Since 1999, the media has given violent video games a bad rap. This perception was created because by two teenage high school students that attended Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. On April 20, 1999 these two students went into their school and shot and killed 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before taking their own lives (History.com, 2009). After this event took place, the police went through the teenager’s journals and in those journals the teenagers talked about how they used a First Person Shooter video game called “Doom” to help them train for this horrible event (Moore, Manville, 2009). Why the media solely focused the cause of this incident on the video games they played and not on the teenager’s satanic beliefs really confuses me.
