Blood and gore. Intense violence. Strong sexual content. Use of drugs. These are just a few words used to describe violent video games such as Grand Theft Auto, one of the most popular video games among teenagers. Experts agree that violent video games are a recipe for aggression. The effects of violent video games are as varied as the number of the games. Given how common these type of video games are, mental health doctors are swarmed with questions from parents who are worried about the affect these games have on their children. In a study called “Video Game Use Among Teens” by PEW Internet & American Life Project, September 2008, claims that sixty-two percent of parents of young video games players say that videogames do not affect their …show more content…

You can play video games with your children to better understand the content, and how children react. Also parents can put consoles and or gaming devices in more common areas of the home, other than bedrooms. Again, try to limit the time used playing video games. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends two hours or less of screen time per day, including television, computer, and video games. Furthermore, encourage children to participate in more sports or school activities in which they can interact with peers in person rather than online.
