On the opposing side of this argument is those who steadfastly defend video games. At this time all the research has failed to show a definite link to between violence in the world and video games. Instead they argue that any correlation can be explained by them being drawn to violent entertainment. At a very young age, kids are introduced to violence. It can be found everywhere. If the violent video games cause kids to commit crimes, then why has the juvenile crime rates significantly decreased, why the sales of violent video games increased? Between the years of 1999-2014 the sales of video games have increased by 204% reaching $13.1 billion in 2014. While violent crimes overall decreased by 37%, and violence committed by juveniles alone have decreased by 76%.("ESA-Essential-Facts-2015.pdf."; National Center for Juvenile Justice 1-244; U.S Department of Justice ) According to The Juvenile Violent Crime Index arrest rate in 2012 was 38% below 1980 levels and 63% below 1994, the peak year ("Juvenile Arrest Rate Trends."). Also student reports of criminal victimization at school dropped by more than half from 1995 to 2011.
