Over the years, violence has increasingly been accepted into schools, personal lives, communities, and media/advertisements. Due to the dramatic spread of violence, today’s teenagers and youth are beginning to experiences intense effects that are altering their lives. Numerous amounts of teens are victims of violence each year; the effects of these continued violence can cause lifetime problems. More than 1 in every 3 girls and boys across the country, ages 10-16 years old, fall victim to violence each year (5). The violence among today’s youth is causing extreme problems that are leading to more violent outburst and behavioral issues that are having harsh effects. The main effects of the violence are crime. Teens are beginning to join gangs and get involved in altercations with the police (6). The law and police officers are being forced to step in and stop teenagers being associated with gangs and participating in street crimes (1). One of the largest and most problematic effects of teenage violence is the changes in social behaviors. The causing’s of teenage violence are beginning to affect teens self-esteem, cause social anxiety, and in many cases it has caused depression (8). Teens are also experiencing physical and mental distress brought on by violence (9). The maturity levels and developmental task levels are being altered by young violence (4). Last year 1,110 separate assaults were reported were teenage girls had assaulted others (1). Assaults are not the only crime problem caused by teenage violence; there has been an increase in street violence caused by teens (2). “Nearly 700,000 young people ages 10-24 are treated in emergency rooms each year for injuries sustained due to violence-related assaults (9).” Many teens face some kind of violence every day at home or in school; this can lead to many effects (5). Violence among teens cause more than 1.6 million deaths worldwide every year and 15-24 year olds have the highest percentage of that death rate (9). The worst effect of this violence is that suicide is the 3rd highest cause of death between 13-21 year olds (2). In every high school 1 in every 6 students have thought about suicide and at least 1 in every 12 students have attempted to commit suicide due to being violent bullied by other teens or abused by parents (2).
