In the chapter “Growing up Tethered” from the work Alone Together: Why We Expect More from Technology by Sherry Turkle, she discusses how the use of cellular devices has changed the way that adolescents are raised and that their life experiences are different than prior generations. After talking to a group of teenagers, Turkle discovers that they will risk their lives to stay connected, as some of the teens admit to texting while driving. She also notes that today’s generation is always waiting for an interruption, such as a notification to pop up on their mobile devices. Turkle points out that, thanks to the use of cell phones, teenagers have immediate access to their parents. Most teenagers today call their parents several times a day, inferring…

Video Games Do Not Cause Violent Behavior Over the years there have been several incidents that have stirred up the emotions of people, parents and especially investigators. These incidents include the Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting, the Columbine Massacre, and the incident in Colorado where a man went on a shooting spree in an Aurora movie theater. There was one key thing that aroused people’s emotions connected by investigators to all three incidents: video games. This led to the belief that if the parents’ children play violent video games that the child will become violent. Even though people have been led to believe that video games cause people to become cruel and commit violent actions, video games do not cause people to commit acts of violence because they don 't have time to…

In the modern world there are many ways to entertain oneself through modern media. All of these mediums have a varying level of interactivity in them and the most interactive can be seen as video games. This interactive study is based on the notion that violence in video games is the cause of violence in the real world due to the interactive nature of video games. I find this topic significant due to many other outlets of media either condemning violence in gamings or using violence in gaming as a scapegoat as the cause of violence in the real world. Recognizing the true effect that violence in this medium has a large effect on the medium itself, as it is able to either still be seen as an appropriate medium for entertainment and not just the source of violence.…

Why are parents worried about the programs that are on television more than the content in video games? Have parents become desensitized to the content of the video games which causes little worry of long term effects? With hundreds of theories that state why youth gun violence has become a major problem, it is hard to simply explain the correct answer.…

Videogames and violence have always been a controversial topic but the argument has always been misconstrued in favor of the idea that video game violence affects youth, when it does not. This simple little thing really is a complete injustice and is completely unfair for the videogame industry, as parents demand they stop making violent games and this is simply trying to silence an artistic medium. It is just insane how much flack a company will actually get for this stuff and it 's stupid. We as a people need to say that enough is enough and that we need to stop all of this protest against violent video games.…
