Negative Consequences Of Video Game Addiction

Addiction is more common than many people in the population may realize. There are a variety of things that people may become addicted to. Sure, there are the obvious ones of alcohol and tobacco, but there are other, not so obvious, ones such as internet and video game addictions as well. These next few paragraphs are based off of an interview with one of my roommates who had been addicted to video games in the past. After getting to know my roommate better throughout this last year or so that I have known him, I have come to realize that we have many things in common with video games being one of them. We both have come to the conclusion that we have been, at least in some point in the past, addicted to video games. One of these negative outcomes came in the form of an excess of avoidable stress. Even though he continued to finish his homework on time and still got grades good enough to get A’s, he put everything on hold until the last minute just to play this game. Another negative consequence of being addicted to Minecraft is that he didn’t get out of the house as much as he would have otherwise. He said that at one point he would have rather stayed home and played a couple of hours of Minecraft than go out with some friends to see a movie or something. This caused him to not build those memories that are important in building true friendships. Finally, the final negative outcome that he said he experienced, was that he wasn’t able to focus on growing in his relationship with God because he was too busy playing Minecraft all of the time to really dig into the word and understand it at a deeper
