HC was uprooted from his home in Korea at the age of 12 and brought to the US along with his mother and an older brother. His mother and brother are often out of the house, leaving HC alone, board with nothing positive or substantial to do with his time. Having a language barrier, HC had little interactions with others and discovered on line gaming. He quickly adapted to this Internet Gaming and quickly became preoccupied with playing. When he is not playing, he often experienced typical withdrawal symptoms according to the DMS-V version on Internet game addiction (Internet Gaming Disorder 2013). It seems the therapist may have then used Motivational Interviewing where the focus was on HC’s motivation for change and resolving his ambivalence. (Capuzzi, Stauffer, 2012). Using the collaborative tools of self-efficacy to engage HC, he was able to give his own advantages and reasons for decreasing gaming time, and increasing activities which could very well provide better health choices for himself, as well as interaction with real people in fun
