Constantly checking your phone for new texts messages, thinking your phone is ringing but it was just a then looking at the phone you realize it was just a false alarm. There are worse habits compared to good habits when dealing with Nomophobia. A good outcome would be the ability to store telephone numbers. The unnecessary usage of cell phones can lead to social phobia disorder. “In accordance with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) (2000), social phobia disorder (SPD) is described as an anxiety disorder of chronic evolution. It is characterized by intense anxiety in social situations that involve interpersonal contact, performance or both, which can cause extreme anxiety or acute interference in an individual’s daily life. Joining in on therapy session will help take your mind of your phones and help you realize you can live life without it and will stop you from the excessive usage of your cellphone. Morning Side recovery is treatment centers were they also cover the treatment of Nomopobia by conducting a rehabilitation session. When people with this disorder enter the treatment program at Morningside, their phones are collected and they are allowed very limited access to them. “The client is helped to develop more healthy connections and attitudes surrounding people and his or her use of cell phones. Therapy will also teach clients ways of changing their behavior, which makes it easier to deal with the panic attacks associated with nomophobia. For example, for nomophobia, a client may be taught how to use distraction techniques, like running their hands under water, or stepping outside to have a face-to-face conversation with someone.
