Almost all Americans in today 's society see television violence every night. They may not be aware of it, but they all see it. Part of the reason why they don’t realize this is because they are desensitized from the violence. Even their children see the violence that is aimed towards adults. Violence on television has created a debate on whether it impacts people 's actions and personality, especially in younger kids and what can be done about it.
The target audience of television violence can be more surprising than most think. The targeted audiences of most television violence are for people of the ages 18-34 (Hamilton). Even though this kind of content is aimed towards adults, they are not the only ones who are seeing it. The impacted group would be young kids. Around ⅓ of kids see violent shows that are meant to be aimed toward adults (Hamilton). Another part of the targeting that networks use is gender based. Young men are the main target in television violence, but young women are more often affected by the violence (Lavers). This proves that even though men are more targeted by TV violence the women who watch it are more susceptible to conforming to what they are seeing. In the past 10 years there has been a significant increase in the female crime rate of 93% (Lavers).
