The purpose of the current study is to study the effects of visible tattoos on comfort levels of patrons with professionals in certain occupations. Past research has found that people with visible tattoos are perceived as having more negative personality traits and behaviors. Research has also shown that professionals with visible tattoos in white collar jobs are deemed inappropriate whereas professionals in blue collar jobs are not. One thing that has not been questioned before is the personal comfort levels of patrons. What is meant by this is that do individuals judge more harshly when they think that the person with a tattoo would be attending to them compared to attending to someone else.

Degelman (2002) found that a model with a tattoo was rated significantly lower (more negative) on 9 of the 13 personal characteristics tested. In a study done by Setter (2005), it was found that credibility ratings were generally lower when wearing a tattoo compared when not wearing one. Another study found that older participants believed tattooed people are less intelligent and less honest than non-tattooed people (Dean, 2010). Again, research has found that visible tattoos on tax service providers were deemed very inappropriate, and they held significantly less confidence in the ability of the tattooed versus non-tattooed employee (Dean,
