Stress related to poor communication was concluded as the primary problem after a family assessment. The family each individually took a survey to measure what they each believed were the areas of greatest stress and the areas of which they need to improve on. The average stressors by all family members were financial stress, lack of communication, lack of individual family time, and lack of parent alone time. Upon my own assessment I concluded that all of these stressors were accurate and each family member needed help on stress relief techniques. Stress can have significant negative physical and psychological effects such as hypertension, obesity, anxiety, aggression, and depression (Sibinga, Kerrigan, Stewart, Johnson, Magyari & Ellen, 2011). Any of the techniques that will be applicable can be chosen by the family members. The techniques for more open communication are practicing clear and direct communication and open and active listening. Taking time to openly communicate throughout the day as well as communicating at a large family meeting once a week will help to address the issues of miscommunication. The most significant strength the family found was a mutual love and dedication to heal as a family. Also an understanding and respect for each family member. Using this, at each family meeting, the family was taught to include a game. This will release the tension and allow each family member to feel more comfortable and to open up. It will allow them to show their love and respect to each other. Laughing together is a great way to bond and express
