It is not uncommon to see a pediatrician or a child phycologist to deal with stress. For many teens, they may feel uncomfortable talking with an adult about the problems that they are facing, when in fact, pediatricians are committed to obtaining the most favorable physical, mental, and social health for people of all ages. They are trained specifically to analyze the problem and develop the best solution possible to keep you at your healthier, “pediatricians develop the skills needed to manage most mild to moderate stress and psychosocial issues in the course of typical training and the early practice years” (Lemmon 4) This can not only be beneficial to individual teenagers, but for the whole family as well. Pediatricians helping families deal with stress may often find themselves as being advocates for bad behavior. Families under stress are often perceived as being unable or unwilling to speak for themselves. Going to see a specialist for stress among teens and families can enhance the dynamic and bring families closer together. Jordan is a junior in high school and is having trouble coping with her negative stress. Trying to juggle a rigorous academic schedule, school clubs, after school sports, and trying to maintain a healthy relationship between family and friends, can be a difficult task for a sixteen year old. She has tried several simple techniques to try and minimize her stress such as physical exercise and different breathing techniques, but is still struggling with stress. She spoke to her local guidance counselor, who recommended her keeping a planner and writing out her daily schedule; this would help her manage her time and reduce her stress levels.
