Americas greatest virtue is its passionate love for the game of athletics, people cherish these events and put great athletes high up on pedestals. The truth of the matter is there is a disease that runs rampant through various sports and effects the health of athletes everywhere, this proclaimed disease is the use of steroids across many platforms of sports that threatens the existence of Americas great past times. Steroid cessation has become a prevalent problem for athletes all around, not only do other players influence each other into using them but there are stories of managers telling their players to “juice up” before games or they will be cut. Close your eyes and imagine a desolate world where Americans cannot enjoy a football Sunday because it went under heavy investigation for steroid use and found damming evidence that lead to its destruction, now open your eyes and tell yourself that that is a world worth living in. Cant do it because you love football? Then learn the facts. A possible quick fix solution to this issue is implement a course of knowledge by the players for the players. Give them the knowledge that they so desperately need to hear which is "they are not good for you. It is like Russian roulette. Five people may take them and have no long-term problem. The sixth may end up dead” (DeNoon). If the players are scared away from steroids there would be a spike in usage across many different sports. While slightly unethical, the use of fear could be the greatest ally in moving toward a better future without performance enhanced athletes making all the plays and stealing all the fame by essentially cheating and lying to everyone. In the course that has been proposed there could be a snippet talking about legacies and how the great ones are great and the cheaters are wash outs. If a player comes up positive for steroids the most effective way to send a message to the rest of the sports world is to ban that player for life and/or hit them with a dramatic fine, if the players can actually see that someone got everything ripped away for them I believe it will help reduce players willingness to put their careers at risk to play a little better. There are a multiplex of gut wrenching stories about athletes who are banned for life over things that are so far less severe then steroid use as told by Brady Sinko of Miami University “Major league baseball also has a huge steroid problem. Pete Rose, who surely would have made the baseball hall of fame, was caught gambling on baseball games. Although he was one of the best hitters in the history of the sport, he was banned from the hall of fame forever. Meanwhile, Rafael Palmeiro was caught taking steroids but was only suspended for ten games and will still have a good shot at making the hall of fame” an absolutely ridiculous punishment for someone who is considered to be amazing but will never see the hall of fame for “gambling” yet Palmeiro only gets ten games and maybe a Hall of Fame shot on a tainted career path.
