In a world that is surrounded by a click or a mouse, or a tap of a finger, we are able to obtain minimal to an unlimited amount of information about a person with great ease. So when does the line become drawn on personal and private? How can we being to define what is truly our personal right and private information? When can we officially mark a separation of the various compartments in our lives; work, school, home? This is where employers and employees are crossing boundaries when social media has affected our life so much that we as humans can no longer refrain from the technology that is starring us in face every day. So it leads us to the question how secure are we in our rights and in our jobs if social media is so open?
What is Social Media? To begin, what is social media and what is the difference between each site? Social media is the slad term when referencing these sites; they are classified as a social networking site or a social website. The privacy on this site is unique in which you must receive permission to view a person’s profile page; however they are publically searchable (Keenan & Shiri, 2009, 446-447). This leaves a person to look for jobs within the site, but to know that they are in an environment strictly built surrounding professionalism. Thus the person feels secure in allowing themselves to be searched without the risk of having their personal lives
