Synthesis Being in the healthcare field, one of our goals is to promote health lifestyles to patients, which may include healthy eating choices, and/or encouraging more exercising. That would also include educating patients about the importance and benefits of him or her quitting smoking. However, how beneficial is it when there are those who are working in the medical field and continue to smoke? How effective is it for a smoker to be informed about the dangers of tobacco toxins and the increased risks of COPD when they can smell the smoke on the nurse, physician, receptionist etc., or have witnessed a healthcare provider smoking in his or her car? Tobacco companies could use those details to substantiate that smoking may not be as dangerous as once indicated because those who are educated on the matter continue to smoke. With that being said, how effective is implementing a smoke-free law when there are still nursing schools that allow the use of tobacco use on campus. Statistics revealed, “Smoke-free policies of 689 Schools of Nursing were examined. Of these, 442 (64%) did not have 100% smoke-free policies on their campuses” (Heath, Hollen, Bialous, Coyne, & Sarna, 2015, para 11). …show more content…
A federal law currently requires individual to be over the age of 18 in order to purchase cigarettes yet, it promotes acceptance for minors to be unwillingly subjected to tobacco toxins. Having one state that mandates there is to be no smoking in a vehicle with a minor under the age of six and another state stating 13, it delivers inconsistent views on the topic. In order for a law such as this to be successful, it necessitates that all states are equivalent. The wrong message is perceived when one college prohibits smoking on campus and another campus, which is a nursing school, consents to tobacco
