The use of smoked marijuana has increased for the treatment of HIV associated anoxeria and weight loss in absence of supporting clinical evidence. This has raised the concern about the safety of marijuana smoking by subjects with an acquired immune deficiency. The safety concern is not only pertaining to effect of THCthe immune system but also for the endocrine system, nervous system and respiratory system on long term and heavy use of marijuana. The use of marijuana was increased due to anecdotes that were established around 20 to 50 years ago in form of studies which described that the smoking marijuana increases the calorie intake and thus increase in body weight. The side effects and unforeseen adverse effects will be explained to the patients. The patients will be explained all the medical terminologies and will be asked any concerns and questions related to the study and treatment procedure. The subjects will be told that the participation is voluntarily and can discontinue the participation in the study due to toxicities or the adverse experiences. Along with that the subjects will be told that in case of injury the study, the treatment will be available for his/her doctor and the cost of treatment will be covered by the subjects as they were not involved in this study. Additionally, the subjects will be told that they will be compensated with $500 in the completion of the study and subjects who discontinue the study due to adverse effects or toxicities will be compensated with $25/day for the days they participated in the study. The above mentioned information will be provided in detail to the subjects at the time of explaining the informed consent form and before taking the signature on informed consent
