I have lost my rhythm, I have been robbed of my sleep and with that, my sanity. 4 Am greets me once more, I grow angered by its presence; where has natures’ soft nurse gone? 5 Am, it has now been thirty-six hours since the last time I slept; my heart began pounding like the thundering hooves of a thousand wild stallions as my blood-red eyes looked around the room, I began hallucinating demons of the night, pointing fingers at me as they hysterically laugh at the sight of my discomfort. Tears shed from my dry eyes: distraught and afraid I close them and lay my hands over my ears to stop the noise of laughter from entering, I had slipped into a black

She walked down the cold, dark corridor as she felt the soft and quiet wind run her by causing her to experience an ice-cold chill that ran up her spine. The clay walls of the old hut pressed in on her, hairline cracks lining the sun-harrowed mud. Dark tendrils curled about her face like smoke, shadows alive as the danced ever closer, but they waited, waited for the raven-haired man's command. The man, creature, was painful in his beauty, obsidian eyes hooded with apathy as his outstretched hand guided the whipping midnight. The woman coughed amid the thinning air, breath escaping her blue-tinged lips and hanging in a silvery cloud before her. Through her agony, she slid her eyes around this home, this heavens forsaken excuse for a life, and decided that perhaps it wouldn't be so bad to die.…

Friday Mornings I rushed my full stomach to my room and I pulled out the bottom of my semi formal clothings and pants drawer. Being the control freak that I am, I also picked out my brother’s outfit. My mother was kind enough to let me select my own outfit to school as a second grader. Enrolled in a small, private, and conservative Christian school, where the moms are very in everyone’s business; not many of my friends were allowed to pick out their “free friday” outfits. Before immersing myself as a student in the world of sleep, I had always believed that I had a great sleeping pattern. In fact, all of my peers found it amusing how much I loved to sleep, to the point where they said I slept all the time. However, the way that I see it is that I am a 20 year old who goes to a tough school academically, plays a 24/7 sport of basketball for the University, works on campus, and finds time to be social. As one should realize, I am a busy man on a rigorous schedule, therefore, in order to not just get by, but instead to be an achiever, I need my sleep. So before taking all of these tests and monitoring my sleeping pattern, I knew that every night I usually got over 8 hours of sleep depending on what day it is was.…
