Sleep deprivation is issue affecting a large number people everyday. 40 million Americans alone were reported to have experienced long-term sleep disorders and 20 million have experienced infrequent sleeping problems, suffering the most from this are adolescents and adults. Several studies have proposed the effects sleep deprivation has on adolescent and adult (Shorts & Louca, 2015; Harvay, 2010). Despite the contributions of previous studies having to do with sleep deprivation in adolescent and adult . Few studies have examined sleep deprivation for is causes and the best way to overcome them. To address this critical gap this study will address the causes of sleep deprivation as well as its effects.

It is these missing pieces that create a bigger picture of what really means to have sleep deprivation and how to solve it as a whole.

To test the hypothesis of how eliminating or lessening the causes around sleep deprivation can change its effects on adolescent and adult, this study will examine sleep deprivation in adolescent between the age of 13 to 18 and adults from the age of 20 to 30. Breaking them into groups within their age group one being control and the other experimental.The independent variable would then become stressors and the dependent variable sleepless night. By allow participants to sleep in their own bed the external validity will remain high. To operationalize the hypotheses of how can eliminating or lessening the causes around sleep deprivation can change its effects on adolescent and adult all participants will be asked to use Profile of Mood States and Duke structured interview for sleep disorder(DSISD) to monitor mood. Lastly participants will be asked to take a course in mindfulness keep track of the experienced stressor to monitor the cause surrounding their sleep deprivation

To establish link between sleep deprivation and mood has researchers have used the Profile of Mood States as known as the POMS. The POMS shows effects sleep deprivation has on mood by measuring the following moods in participants tension/anxiety, depression, anger, fatigue, confusion, and vigor. Other measurement commonly used in testing the effects of sleep deprivation is the Duke structured interview for sleep disorder(DSISD). Used to indicate sleep disorder in participantes it is very effective way to discover the underlying causes for sleep deprivation. One another type measurement use in the study of is actigraphy a wrist-like watch to evaluate sleep/wake cycle by using a movement sensor. In some cases many studies rely on a combination of sleep diary and or stanford sleepiness scale (SSS) ,using these to test can cause research to have poor internal vitality. The reason for this many is many time it hard for people to account the activities of a nights sleeps . Whereas test like the POMS can be put to better uses being it a test that can not be asew . What studies have found increase in fatigue, confusions, tension-anxiety,and a decrease in vigor are some of the more common.
