In society today, there are many different forms that abuse can take. The more known forms of abuse are physical, emotional or verbal, and sexual. These are the most common forms of dating violence teenagers in relationships experience. There are other types of abuse that are not as well known. Other malicious forms of abuse – financial, digital, and stalking – are ways abusers attempt to gain power (SC #10). Anyone can be a victim of abuse, but abuse in teenage relationships is a topic that is not focused on very often. Abuse is an intimidating topic to discuss: The intimidation is why abuse in teenage relationships is often not reported, addressed, or noticed (SC #3). Teenage relationship abuse is more common than most people realize. It is a domestic problem that almost 1.5 million American teenagers have experienced (Love is Respect). Of those teenagers that have been in an abusive relationship, only one out of three of them ever told anyone about the abuse (Love is Respect).
