The Corruption Of Sex And Violence In The Media

Every type of media goes through the same rigorous process any time something new is released. It is evaluated over and over on it 's corruption on society and eventually but not always followed by acceptance. The particular type of media I would like to explore is video games. Even though movies and televisions series show sex and violence, video games get the viewer involved and encourage them to make risky choices for their characters. Video games have been around since the Creation of Spacewar in 1962 (The Gaming Evolution). Every generation starts playing them earlier and earlier. All games before they are released come with ratings some are rated E for Early Childhood all the way to M for Mature, however; this doesn 't stop younger children …show more content…
After researching several cases with suspects of different generations and demographics it leads me to believe that sex and violence in the media has a huge effect on society. Movies and television shows that depict sex and violence also have an effect on society, however; video games get the viewer/game player involved with the story and encourage the game player to make the actions and the choices for their character. This develops a new mindset for the player and can lead to an addiction to the game. Which for some can influence or inspire them to commit crimes based on the games they are binging. Do they learn their lesson? Well this leads psychologists to create studies where they gather people from different age groups and have them play similar games for hours while they study their brain patterns and their psychological triggers. There is no sure way of knowing whether or not someone learns their lesson from a crime or feels a thrill from committing a crime without doing further testing on each persons brain and their unique …show more content…
Even if stores were stricter on purchases it still wouldn 't solve the problem at home. It is up to the legal guardian to make the choice for their children and decide whether or not this game is morally acceptable. Some steps guardians could take to ensure their kids are playing what is appropriate is making sure that games that are overrated for them are locked away or place high on shelf that they cannot have access to. Another step one could take is to have a talk with the children 's caregiver or older siblings and explain the impact this game has on children who aren 't ready to play it and to also clarify the impact the game could have on them even though they are of

From the previous article I learned what violent video games can do to behavior, but now I can comprehend how it relates to actual crime. In the article, “Violent Video Games Can Desensitize Players and Increase Aggression” George Drinka, a child psychiatrist, speculates that murderers use violent video games as a tool to train to kill people. He states that Adam Lanza, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter, spent much of his time inside and one of his main interests was playing violent videogames. He also seemed to have quite a collection of video games as “The police describe discovering a vast cache of video games, many with violent content, in particular the game entitled Call of Duty.” (2) Drinka describes that another murderer, Anders Brevig, was also rather fond of Call of Duty and that he actually admitted to using that game as practice for his mass shooting in Norway. Drinka makes the connection that because both murders played violent video games, they got more withdrawn from the real world, and more involved with virtual reality thus making them more out of touch with people and more inclined to do violent things.…

First, the purpose of movies is typically to entertain, and violent movies have affected the viewer ever since they were created.
