Today in society discrimination has been a huge problem, racism has been and is the most influential form of discrimination today. The minorities group in this case, African American and even hispanics are exposed to many horrible things like being untreated, and look down upon because of the color of their skin. It’s very frustrating and sad to see that up until this day, in a country where people are supposed to have “freedom” some people in a way are not. These minorities are manipulated and in a way controlled. Other people create a belief that they are different or that they are not capable of doing what for example a white person can do. Availability heuristics is a kind of social cognitions that is a way to form judgements and make decisions, “mental shortcuts” that focuses on a certain thing. We can relate this to cognitive biases, which leads many of us to do things without actually thinking instead of thinking before we do it. This continues discrimination because of the people’s attitudes towards people of color it impacts people’s decisions, which could lead to the way they treat people of color and how they look down on them as if there were animals. My friends and I once experience this one day that we went to eat in a very nice restaurant in Boston for my friend birthday. For some reason it happened to be that we were the only color people that night. I felt very uncomfortable, however we still stayed. We noticed that our waitress was acting very strange with us. She said something I found really rude. We asked her what were some good dishes that she would recommend to eat and she pointed to a couple of the cheapest plates on the menu. She said” these are a couple of plates that you guys might find affordable”. My friends and I could see and feel how she treated us differently from her other tables. In this experience you can see how based on she felt and thought about color people she treated us differently. She saw us as if were not normal people going out to eat like every other
