Recently PTSD service dogs have appeared in more and more families, with PTSD victims, especially those with United States veterans. Some religions state that dogs are unclean and that they should be killed, or even eaten. Muslims, for example, do not keep dogs in their homes, because of their religious text that states that angels will not enter a house with a dog in it. Some Muslims interpret this as a command to kill dogs, and some Muslims don’t even enter a house that has a dog in it, even if the family isn’t an Islamic family. “This belief is partly based on the Quranic verse describing the dog at the threshold of the cave, as well as a story in which the angel Gabriel breaks a rendezvous with the Prophet Muhammad because a puppy had wandered into Muhammad 's home.” This verse says, “We angels do not enter a home in which there is a dog or a picture” (Sacirbey). The saliva of a dog is also considered impure by Islamic texts. Anything that is licked by a dog is supposed to be cleansed, one text saying to wash it seven times and the first time with soil, and another saying wash it seven times and rub it with soil the eighth time. “The dog itself is not impure but its saliva is impure” (“What Islam says about dogs”). Some Muslims believe that they are allowed to have a dog, but they are only allowed to have them under certain circumstances. One instance is if the dog is used for hunting or farming. Another is if it is guarding livestock or crops, and some believe that it is reasonable to also add …show more content…
If the conditions are too extreme for the dog, the dog could become very sick or even die, especially with the theory of Global Warming. Recently temperatures have increased, on an average yearly scale, more than ever before. This increase in temperature has caused drought, wildfires, and melting of many large ice bodies, which is supposedly causing the rise of ocean levels. This change can increase heat stroke in dogs and create an increase in ticks and the diseases that the ticks carry (Khuly). In areas that aren’t affected as much by the heat increase, or those with colder temperatures, it wouldn’t affect dogs as much, but in those areas that major heat is a normal climate, an increase in heat would be much more devastating. Global warming isn’t the only climate factor that is potentially harming to dogs. Natural disasters are also a very dangerous factor, and there are places worldwide that suffer worse natural disasters than those in the United States. Floods, tsunamis, volcanoes, earthquakes, sandstorms, and many other natural disasters can endanger the lives of dogs, especially since they can’t always be controlled on what they need to do to protect themselves from these conditions. While they are intelligent beings, they may not know to seek shelter, run away, or get to higher ground when disaster strikes, and this can lead to their death or serious injury. Natural disasters that cause a rapid climate change;

    Service dogs are dogs trained to help wounded veterans, whether they have PTSD, a visible injury like a missing limb, or an invisible one like a fractured vertebrae. Most dogs know about 100 commands and some others know even more. They can pick things up, turn lights on and off, assist with balance, and help the veteran with other everyday tasks. They can help calm the veteran if they are anxious and they can form a barrier against crowds so that the veteran won’t get overwhelmed. Sometimes even just the mere presence and company of a dog will soothe someone and ease their stress or anxiety.…

    Dogs can lower your risk of getting allergies. In one study a pediatrician at the University of Wisconsin analyzed blood from newly born babies’ and then one year later. He found that if the baby lived in a house with a dog, they were twenty-four percent less likely to have pet allergies, their chances decreased of getting an allergy skin condition called eczema, and they had higher levels of certain chemicals that show signs of a stronger immune system (Davis). Similarly, another study showed that it a family had two pets; there was a seventy percent reduction in sensitivity to all allergens (Coren 221). Pets, specifically dogs, lower a person’s chance of getting allergies because exposure to endotoxins found in their spit at a young age causes someone’s immune system to have a lower chance of reacting to certain allergens (Coren 222).…
