Research from the author Burnette explains that children, and young teens involved in prostitution are at risk of physical and sexually abuse. From a public health perspective, children, teens and women experience abuse and neglectful experiences from being involved in prostitution (Kramer, L. A., & Berg, E. C., 2003). Some incidents of physical abuse occur early in a teen or child’s life. Children and young teens are at risk of sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted and early pregnancies, and the potential to facilitate a youth’s transition into prostitution (Widom, C. S., & Kuhns, J. B., 1996). Children and young teens in a neglectful home, where sexual abuse has occurred can effect the wellbeing of a child’s life (Kramer, L. A., & Berg, E. C., 2003).
