Exemplification Essay: The Effects Poverty Has On Child Development

Poverty is the inability to purchase essential goods that most people take for granted. Examples of this include simple food, such as bread, milk etc. (Healey, J 2014). Poverty not only affects what a person may purchase, it also affects simple medical care or dental work again that people take for granted. These simple doctor visits or dentistry visits that people whom live in poverty are unable to do, affects their health, and their families' health (Healey, J 2014). When children are younger, they're more susceptible to illness's (Healey, J 2014), and therefore they require medical attention to assist in development (Healey, J 2014). Thus, I will be covering the affects that poverty has on child development, focusing explicitly on unintentional child health negligence; meaning that families in poverty are unable to provide health assistance for their children, so therefore their health may be ignored and they may become ill, as well as the educational disadvantage of living in …show more content…

Per this article, regular attendance at school allows child development in ways that families alone cannot teach their children, individualism, and developing a child’s personality, talents and mental and physical abilities are all components that school helps to provide (McKinney. 2014). This is a major part of child development, and if children do not have access to this, they may be unable to develop their own personality, their own decisions, as they will interpret anything that their parents do and assume it is correct (McKinney. 2014).
